RIGHT NOW
There are Tibetan Buddhist monks in a temple in the Himalayas endlessly reciting mantras for the cessation of your suffering and for the flourishing of your happiness.
Someone you haven't met yet is already dreaming of adoring you.
Someone is writing a book that you will read in the next two years that will change how you look at life.
Nuns in the Alps are in endless vigil, praying for the Holy Spirit to alight the heartsof all of God's children.
A farmer is looking at his organic crops and whispering, "nourish them."
Someone wants to kiss you, to hold you, to make tea for you. Someone is willing to lend you money, wants to know what your favourite food is, and treat you to a movie. Someone in your orbit has something immensely valuable to give you -- for free.
Something is being invented this year that will change how your generation lives, communicates, heals and passes on.
The next great song is being rehearsed.
Thousands of people are in yoga classes right now intentionally sending light out from their heart chakras and wrapping it around the earth.
Millions of children are assuming that everything is amazing and will always be that way.
Someone is in profound pain, and a few months from now, they'll be thriving like never before. They just can't see it from where they're at.
Someone who is craving to be partnered, to be acknowledged, to ARRIVE, will get precisely what they want -- and even more. And because that gift will be so fantastical in it's reach and sweetness, it will quite magically alter their memory of angsty longing and render it all "So worth the wait."
Someone has recently cracked open their joyous, genuine nature because they did the hard work of hauling years of oppression off of their psyche -- thisluminous juju is floating in the ether, and is accessible to you.
Someone just this second wished for world peace, in earnest.
Someone is fighting the fight so that you don't have to.
Some civil servant is making sure that you get your mail, and your garbage is picked up, that the trains are running on time, and that you are generally safe.Someone is dedicating their days to protecting your civil liberties and clean drinking water.
Someone is regaining their sanity. Someone is coming back from the dead. Someone is genuinely forgiving the seemingly unforgivable. Someone is curing the incurable.

thank u tawney:)

Yamas&Niyamas

The Yoga Sutras are the classic text of yoga and the sutras are basically a guideline for progressing your yoga practice so eventually you can reach "samadhi" or enlightenment. In the sutras we are given tools or "steps" called the yamas and the niyamas which when incorporated into our lives with our yoga lead to the highest good in oneself. Ahhh Ahimsa is one of the sacred yamas and translates as NON-VIOLENCE or NON-HARMING. Ahimsa means to treat those around you and yourself with an abundance of compassion and a never ending supply of love!!

I've noticed that I practice Ahimsa with everyone around me but I sometimes have trouble practicing ahimsa towards myself. Maybe some of you have felt the same problem. The "never good enough" attitude, the self-debilitating thoughts that disable not only growth but the general state of our well being. Have you ever noticed the unkind, unhelpful, and destructive comments and judgements silently made toward our self in any given day? If we were to speak these thoughts out loud to another person, we would realize how truly devastating violence to the self can be. Few of us would dare to be as unkind to others as we are to ourselves. If you think about it, this sort of attitude is harming not only our self but it is getting in the way of our LOVE for all beings by sucking away the joy of life! You as much as anyone else deserve compassion and love. Next time your considering ahimsa its helpful to ask, Are my thoughts, actions, and deeds fostering the growth and well being of all beings? If it is not, just throw the thought away... it is serving no one.

(Thanks Donna Farhi for the insight)

Music

You can check out all my yoga mixes by clicking anywhere above and going to "see all imixes by this user" ENJOY:)

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.

Kahil Gibrin on Love!

Love one another, but make not a bond of love.
Let it rather be a moving sea between the shores of your souls.
Fill each other's cup, but drink not from one cup.
Give one another of your bread, but eat not from the same loaf.
Sing and dance together and be joyous, but let each one of you be alone.
Even as the strings of a lute are alone though they quiver with the same music.
Give your hearts, but not into each other's keeping.
For only the hand of life can contain your hearts.
And stand together, yet not too near together.
For the pillars of the temple stand apart.
And the oak tree and the cypress grow not in each other's shadow.

Attitude

"The remarkable thing is we have a choice everyday regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past...We cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude. I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% of how I react to it. And so it is with you....we are in charge of our attitudes." -Charles Swindoll

SPRING

YES! :) Long, beautiful, sunny days are ahead of us! How amazing. Updates on life: I am thinking about attending a kirtan workshop... For anyone who has heard me sing before you are probably thinking to yourself that I am crazy... I am not exactly the best singer, i'm actually not even a decent singer. And so why the sudden urge to join some cool kirtan band? Well, kirtan is so very interconnected to yoga and why not delve deeper into my yogic path. Good voice or not, kirtan is a beautiful BEaUTIFUL way to connect deeper into my practice and to the universe. If you happen to see some blonde girl singing sanskrit off key that'll be me :) haha Besides my kirtan dreams, My teacher training co-lead days are slowly coming to an end, only 3 weeks left. I am so very thankful for the opportunity to serve others in a way that I have never done before. Being able to share my passion and knowledge with future yogi teachers is unlike anything else I have ever experienced. .Its so awesome to watch everyone learn and grow, not only that, but the community that we have created is wonderful! Today is my day off and I want nothing more than to take about 3 yoga classes today to make up for my lack of practice last week....Oh and maybe some beach time as well:).YESyesyes, Love and Light to all-Jans

Breathe!

Breath is essential to living and loving your spirit. In fact, your breath is your spirit! The air you take in gives you life. To breathe deeply is to calm your spirit and bring it into every cell of your body. One of the first things that occurs when you disconnect from your spirit and get entangled in the drama and confusion of the false ego self is that you stop breathing deeply. You tend to breathe shallowly instead, and even occasionally hold your breath altogether. When your body doesn't get adequate oxygen, it goes more deeply into fear and anxiety, thus creating a vicious cycle of self-debilitating negativity. Sooooo, to love your spirit-to live your spirit-you must BREATHE.

Beautiful Kirtan w/ Govindas and Radha

Warms the soul, Enjoy! :)

yoga"es.. yumyum

So, Yesterday was my Haiti donation class and I raised $250.00!!! I am so grateful to everyone who showed up! Jai Ho!! :) Thanks for coming out for a good cause!

Some quotes shared in last night & tonight's classes:

"Our energy is like a muscle; it grows when we use it. We believe and act accordingly, and as we do, this belief grows in our life. We believe in compassion, live compassion, and compassion grows in our lives. We believe in love, live lovingly, and love grows in our lives. We stand in our light, live our light, and the light grows within us. We need only make a beginning, and that beginning will foster within us the power to move forward."

"People who make it in this life look around for the circumstances they want, and if they can't find them, they CREATE them."

"Your not living with what you have, your creating what you want to have in your life."

Advice from a River

Dear friend,
Go with the
flow
Be thoughtful of those downstream
Slow down and meander
Follow the path of least resistance
for rapid success

Immerse yourself in nature,
trickling streams,
roaring waterfalls,
sparkles of light dancing on water
Delight in life's adventures around every bend
Let difficulties stream away

Live simply and gracefully in Your own True Nature
moving, flowing, allowing,
serene and on course
It takes time to carve the beauty of the canyon
Rough waters become smooth
Go around the obstacles
Stay current

The beauty is in the journey!

Light theme!

After creating this blog over a year ago and failing miserably to write one post... I am now going to finally write about yoga, life, things that interest me, and so forth.

It is so rainy today.... Come back sunshine. Oh well, Days like these force me to read, write, and reflect a bit more on where I'm at!!!!

So, Last weeks yoga theme was LIGHT! Letting your light shine through... I will elaborate more on this concept for those who were unable to make any of my classes last week! As we allow our mind to become present through the practice of yoga and meditation we are allowing ourselves to connect more to who we really are, our "true self." Our "true self" is who we are beyond all of the self-doubt and insecurities, Beyond all of the thoughts and ego. We are capable of more than we could ever imagine if we would just get out of our own way!! Our true self is the light and all of the rest of the negativity is considered to be the clouds that are blocking our sunshine. Last week's classes were infused with many backbends and twists. As we open our hearts and backbend, we create space from within, we create space around the heart and release emotional baggage, and as we twist, we detoxify and release negative toxins. Thats some yummy stuff. I'd like to share the quotes I used in class for this "light" theme... enjoy yogis:)

"To be a star, you must shine your own light, follow your own path, and don't worry about the darkness, for that is when the stars shine brightest”

"Keep your face to the sunshine and you cannot see the shadow."

"It doesn't matter how long we may have been stuck in a sense of our limitations. If we go into a darkened room and turn on the light, it doesn't matter if the room has been dark for a day, a week, or ten thousand years - we turn on the light and it is illuminated. Once we control our capacity for love and happiness, the light has been turned on."

"as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we're liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others."

Yoga song of the day: Cirque de soleil: Africa (Cottonbelly remix)

Love&Light to all! :) And remember that no matter the weather, always let your sun, your light, shine through!!
